Identifying LH 2.2 or LH 2.4 700 1989

How does Modern Volvo Owner identify the LH 2.2 and LH 2.4 cars?

Mine is '89 745T. I've scoured the message archives/FAQ's to no avail.

Specifically I'm looking to see if mine has the crank sensor; I want to know if I can use the screwdriver/bolt trick to block flex plate during timing belt change.

I bought the tool from IDP, after having to fuss with the belt a couple of times because I put it on wrong the first time, and doing a belt on my friends car, it was well worth the money.

    take care.

Good choice. The holder formerly was cheap polyester, with lapels to match. A certain tension spec unpublished by SLRI is critical to performance. Have you opened the seams yet?

Assuming that you have a North American Market Vehicle, you should have LH-Jetronic 2.2 in your '89 Turbo 740.

The non-turbo cars made the switch to Jetronic 2.4 starting with the beginning of production in the '89 model year, but the Turbo cars didn't make the switch from 2.2 to 2.4 till '90. As previously mentioned, if you have a black thumbwheel idle adjustment screw, a Boch 501/520 IAC Valve, and a 007 AMM, then you have a Jetronic 2.2 system. The 2.4 has a 516 IAC Valve, a 020 AMM, and a self diagnostics interface (and no idle adjustment screw).

    God bless,
    Fitz Fitzgerald.

Crank sensor is located on the bell housing. With the hood open, you can find it by looking at the back of the engine where the engine/tranny meet.

Another check is color of the ECT (engine coolant sensor...NOT the guage sender) although it's kinda buried under the intake. Blue connector=LH2.2 Black connector=LH2.4 My '89 765T has LH2.2

Search for "rope trick" or look in the FAQ. IMO it's a safer method to hold the crank shaft.
