87 240 driver's side wheel problems 200 1984

much friction grinding whining sound.... shreaded 1/4 of tire (inside).... bearings? steering seems easy but pulls to the left on the highway. HELP

    Let's start with the obligatory "don't drive it" statement.

    Have you checked in the wheel well to see what the problem might be? Compare to the other side of the car. As bad as it sounds, I think you will see the cause immediately.

    If I remember correctly, it is not uncommon for the 240 spring seats to break away from the strut tube especially in the rust belt. This would be my fist suspicion.

      Dan you were right on target....rusty as heck.after many hours (and about $100 in parts) it's back to normal, for now... thanks

        Even a blind pig finds the acorn once in a while.
        Thanks for posting back with the results,and I hope the other side is in better shape. I think I'll have a look at my son's 240 next time he stops by.
