What Socket Do I Use on the Oil Drain Plug? 140-160 1987

I measured the oil drain plug at 25 mm in diameter. None of my tool stores sells a 25 mm. The closest I can find is 1". What sockets/wrenches do you use?

I use a 1" box wrench. Got a nice long handle.

It's one inch. And I use a normal combination wrench.
They can be on pretty tight. New copper washers are available from FCP Groton or any Volvo dealer- you shouldn't have to overtighten it if you install a new washer.

I mean a 245 DL Volvo, not a 160! 140-160 1987

1 inch socket is fine, from at least '73 to '93 (my own experience) 140-160 1987

Hi. With an '87, you're in the wrong forum -- there's a "240" forum. But you're welcome to look around -- 140/164 cars in interesting, too, even if the engines (pushrod, rather than OHC) are a bit different.
Anyway, I've owned 164's and 240's, begining with 1973 and as late as 1993, and they all take a 1-inch socket.
Just be sure to observe your tightening torque, and always use a fresh copper washer!

Dunno for sure, but I bet 1" still applies. Volvo went (back to) metric with the 240 series, but left some of the routine maintenance stuff standard to keep us anti-metric folks happy.

Don't overtighten, and you can use a crescent wrench, though it ain't the best, it should work. Don't make it round.

You can get the copper warsher at about any parts store... bring your old one for comaparison.
