rear shelf speakers (6' x 9') - '95 960 900 1995

How do I get to these rear deck speakers ?? They're not mounted in the trunk, from under the rear shelf support; they're apparently above it, and below the cover. The upholstered cover apparently needs to come off, but does that pry out, or what ? Do I need to fold the rear seat forward ? Does the rear seat even fold forward --- I don't see any releases like the ones on the 850.

Anybody that's already done this, I'd like to hear from you.

Thanks !

Tim,

Tom Irwin posted a very good set of instructions for removing the rear speakers in 940/960 a number of years ago.

It's located in the archives, check this out ...

I found this info very helpful when I replaced my factory 6x9s with some very nice Boston Acoustic three ways. Great step by step instructions.

If it's the same as my 91 940, the seat does not fold forward. To get the seat out you'll have to remove the bottom first and then pry up the clips at either end of the backrest to remove it. The headrests have to be unbolted and removed then the rear deck upholstery can come off. I think it's held in with screws but not sure - it's been a while since I took mine apart.

Hope this helps

Brad

I have been looking for an easier way to replace the blown 6x9 in the rear deck of my 94 940. Having to remove the rear seat to replace a speaker just seems absurd to me. That is a design drawback. I am going to try and use a Dremel to cut out the 6x9 and replace with a 5x7. I think I can avoid the rear seat removal odyssey in that way.
