Maybe Spook is right, Your engine has hydraulic motor mounts, they do go bad but not usually. If you have clearance under your oil pan and the mounts aren't the issue then get back to the board. Why did you change the transmission mount in the first place?

Hi,

Spook was right..checked the oil pan and the crossmember and darn...the new tranny mount tilted the engine enough that it hit the crossmember..so i went ahead and took the new mount out for now until i get my motor mounts...I changed the tranny mount because i was getting a lot of movement in the shifter and yeah the old mount is shredded...
So..what would be the best way to take the old motor mounts out...is it better to take the bracket bolts off then take the bottom nut off or could I just go ahead and go under the car and loosen the bottom nut that way...thanks!!!

I look in the tech manual on the AW71 and can't find any reference to the torque spec for the bolt in question. Torque specs on any thing related to the transmission, but not the bolts on the cross member. In the past I just tighten the bolts or nut up snug and never worried about it on my 82 245.

Dear xax,

Good a.m. and may this find you well. If the motor mounts are "worn out", raising the transmission (by installing a new mount) could tilt the engine forward, causing the front of the oil pan to rest on the cross member. That would allow engine vibrations to reverbrate through the car's body.

There should be 3/8"-1/2" (10-13 mm) of space between the oil pan's front surface and the cross member.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook
