Turbo install question, Safty question. 200

How safe would it be to install a turbo in a 240 with 200,000 + miles?

Found a junkyard with a good turbo no play. He wants $150 for everything to convert to a turbo. Hard not to fight that price to upgrade to a turbo.

hi there. you might want to do more research on this, i think you will need some electronics also. but it is being done with pretty good sucess. i thought of this but after researching i decieded to just buy a 240 turbo. either way faster is better in my opinion. good luck.

Not a safety issue...reliability and durability, cost issue. 200

Best way to do it is to pull the engine and install a B200 turbo or B230FT entire engine. Do NOT waste your time putting a turbocharger on your engine.

I agree.

Even with switching the engine, I think the costs are probably going to be prohibitive. Add on changing wiring and other unexpected issues. Not for me...

IMO - go buy a good used turbo. A 240 or 740 turbo are relatively cheap. Even a 940 turbo has come down in price....

First off, what year is the brick? Are you talking about a B230F +T setup or does the car already have a turbo? Does the engine still pull strong? Maybe run a compression test, obviously do a tuneup, Valvejob if needed, replace headgasket? etc. etc.

Its a 240 1986 240 and pulls real hard. Just added vx cam its all running real good. No oil leaks. Havent run a compression test. But even with everything fine will the piston rings withstand the extra 5-7 psi of boost in the engine after so many miles?

With the +T setup you'll be running at a stock 6-8 psi which the engine should handle just fine. However, if you want more boost you'd want to swap a turbo ecu for starters. To fully tweak, you'd want an EMS system like Megasquirt. If you haven't done so already...head over to Turbobricks.com. A sh*tload of info on turboing an NA B230F engine.

Best,
Adam
