instrument cluster removal 900

I need to remove the instrument cluster from my 93 945T due to flakey fuel gauge. How does one get the littel bugger out. The 940 Haynes manual is on the long side of poor.

If your 945T is like my 945NA, there will be two small slots, one at each end of the bezel covering the instrument cluster. You take a small screwdriver and push on the latching piece which is behind these slots. While doing this, you pull out on the bezel. Do one side at a time. The bezel on mine was a .... to get out the first time, pretty tight.

Once the bezel is off, you'll see 4 screws, two at each end of the cluster, if my memory is right. Remove these screws and the cluster comes out with the usual wires connected. I lubed the latches so maybe next time the job will be easier.

The FAQs were helpful but I didn't expect it to come out so hard.

I had a really hard time getting the bezel off too. Pushed and pushed on each side with no luck. With the knee bolster off you can look up under the left side of the cluster and see the clip that holds the bezel. Then stick a screw driver up there to release the bezel.

I ususlly have the knee bolster off anyway in the hopes of changing the bulb without removing the cluster.

Tim, please let me know how it goes - I have exactly the same problem, and also need to replace few lamps.

Bazz,

I am only now getting back to removing the cluster. Bit of a pain pushing in the clips and trying to pull the bezle at the same time. I also put a screwdriver on the side and helped pry it out. Really need to push a long way in on the side slots.

To repair the gauge the connector is the long connector below and to the right (as you face the instrument cluster from the front) on the back of the cluster. I removed the connector and crimped each of the pins then reinstalled. Works OK for now. If it stops I will just repeat.

Hope this helps.

Tim
