Installing Rear Trailing Arm Bushings 200 1984

I am about to install a set of traing arm bushings on the rear end of a 240. Is there a discription of how to do the job somewhere on Brickboard? If not, any tips would be helpful. My local dealer is going to let me borrow the tools to do it if he can find all of them. (They haven't done one in years!) If not I will have to "shadetree" the job and I need to know any tricks.
It would be great if brickboard had an FAQ for 200's like they do for 700-900's.
Thanks in advance for any advice. I'm klunking in Colorado. :)

You may have already finished the job, but in case you haven't, and if you haven't bought the bushings yet, the poly bushings are easier to replace than the original rubber bushings, but they're about $50 for the pair. (These are the rear trailing arm bushings that attach the trailing arm to the rear axle.)

All you have to do it use an inexpensive propane torch to burn/melt out the old rubber, leaving the metal sleeve in place. Then you can clean the sleeves out with a little wire wheel on a drill and slide in the poly bushings (they are two-piece, one from each side), then bolt it up. I did this a couple of months ago, as I didn't want to mess with finding/building a tool and trying to press the old sleeves out and the new ones in.

Assuming you are replacing with oem bushings, my mechanic gave me a trick for removing the old. Using an air chisel (if you have one), split the shell of the old bushing and collapse it a little. This makes driving it out with a hammer easy.

It's the same procedure thats in the 700/900 FAQ.
Be sure before you install them that they are positioned correctly with the arrow ponting down.
Also use a bar of soap to lubricate the outside of the new bushings.

    Good luck.
