OD switch installation 140-160 1972

Is there anywhere that I can find a illustration or photo of the factory installation of a stalk type overdrive switch on the right side of the steering column?
It appears to need a bracket or other device attached to the steering column.
I must be missing something because the stalk switch will not just attach to the hardware normally found under trim pieces on the 140.
I need help!
Thanks
Al

I did the M410 OD upgrade to a '68 144S and took a factory OD column mounted switch and plastic cover to match off of a '72 144 and it fit perfectly without any bracket as I recall. IIRC it uses the same bolts as the turn indicator through the plastic, but on the opposite side.

Damn... that's a bummer. There is indeed a bracket, and it should never have been separated from the switch when it came off the donor car..

Would probably not be too awful difficult of a thing to fabricate though. Wouldn't have to be pretty being hidden under the trim bits. Or for that matter, you might get lucky and be able to order one from your friendly local Volvo dealer...

I'd be able to offer a picture, but my car is a work, and I'm at home today... If nobody else does, let me know and I'll get a pic for you.

Did you get the switch from IPD or some other source that has a nut on it and mounts toggle switch style? If so, you drill a hole in the plastic shrouding and just bolt it to the plastic.

the original 140 switch has the bracket as a part of the switch...

This is a factory stalk /switch. It looks identical to the directional indicator stalk but mounts to the right side of the steering column.

There is an oblong shaped plate about 1 inch long that the base of the switch is attached to.

The oblong plate has two threaded screw holes at the top and bottom. The plate is unfinished so I doubt it mounts to the outside of the plastic steering column cover. I don't think Volvo would have designed the switch to mount to the plastic anyway...doesn't seem strong enough for this type of switch.

I guess I expected it to mount in a similar fashion as the directional stalk.

How are you doing with your interior search?

Ok, on mine, you could use a screw through the white inner plastic "bracket" that the turn signal stalk is attached to.....into the threaded holes in the turn signal stalk bracket. I wonder if you have the correct factory stalk for your year? there were different ones, I'm told.

Interior search is...well...a search. Still not sure how I want to proceed as I'm unhappy with how the locally sourced fabric looks (light tan) and the seats themselves are a little shabby. Would prefer to find a better core seat and then recover w/ oe style fabric.
