New shocks and struts? 200 1987

I am ready to replace my shocks and struts want some advice. I have 87 245 175k M47. All bushings ,steering, have been or will be replaced. GT sway bars and firewall brace, cherry upper and lower braces.I will be putting the GT front springs on 16mm compared to 14mm stock. Overload on rear. I am trying to decide between Bilstiens or Boge T gas. I have bilstiens on a 90 245 auto and they very firm compared to the 87 kyb rear, sears front on the 87. All advice appreciated .Bob.

Like Phil said, you will be underdamped with the Boge Turbos, they are great shocks for stock sprung cars but don't have the damping needed for stiffer springs. Go with the HDs or Konis.

I had the Boge TG's for a year, now granted i had mine coupled with lowering springs(B&G's), I didn't care for them. They were underdammped for the application with the springs and couldn't control the return rate of the springs, causing the car to bob on bumby corners and highway speed dips. I have heard that they are good as an OEM replacment for a standard application. I had no knocking issues with mine as they were the Mexican made Bogs versions.

    Good luck!

I had Boge turbo gas, made in Turkey, in the rear of my '86 240 wagon and they rattled incessantly. The only cure was to replace the shocks. I used KYBs and the rattling disappeared. There were a couple others who had the same trouble with these shocks around the same time. It wasn't a problem with the fit at the mount - but seemed to be something internal to the shock which caused it to rattle with slight motions. By the way I do have Boge turbo gas on the front and they are fine. Kinda firm, as expected, but no troubles. I hope this helps,
    Tom

I put Boge TurboGas at all four corners of son's 81 last Spring. Ride is a bit firmer, but not harsh (stock springs). You do notice freeway expansion joints more, but the additional damping is worth it. Overall I'd say the TG's are a good all-round, moderate upgrade to the OE units. Have heard on this BB that the Bils can need some fiddling to get fitted into the strut tubes, and their rears (the TC's) had rattling issues due to improper spacers or something, but the made-in-Mexico Boge's from IPD were no problem.
