My crank shaft pulley is making a chirping noise. It is especially loud after a cold start. Once the engine warms up, it quiets down some. The noise seems to me to be getting progressively worse. I double checked my belts and the noise is definitely coming from the pulley.

Any ideas or advice?

Mine was doing the same. It was the rubber to steel bonding that had failed.so I removed thr pulley and cleaned the crack out with laquor thinner and spun it while pouring more laquer thinner through it. afte rI got it all clean I blew it out with compressed air then I dumped a bunch of crazy glue in there. It has been 2 years and it is still going strong. P.S. thanks for the tip about the hesitation/stalling.

Did our hesitation/stall problem get resolved? What was the fix? Just curious. The chirping turned out to be a bad water pump. Got it replaced and had the timing belt done at the same time. The crank shaft pulley, though old was running fine.

Run this test:

Paint a white line on the crank pulley center to edge. Use Wite-Out, or whatever you have that will last a while.

Watch the line before and after a drive. Since it will be on the center part, cross the rubber ring, and be on the outer part, it will separate if the pulley is failing.

Get rid of it if the halves are spinning uncoupled. Frictional heat can make it really hot and this heating and cooling might loosen the crank bolt. If it falls off it will be expensive. Run the car and feel the pulley carefully. BTDT.
