Hi everyone
I'm trying to help my son (who fell in love and moved to Poland) sell his 1964 122 B18 station wagon. It's white, needs some cosmetic work but no scary rust, runs. I'm having a mechanic check out all of the major systems before I post.
How do I find out what it's worth? Is there a special website that gives basic values on these cars?
Thanks so much for your help; my daughter is driving another 122 wagon my son couldn't part with. It's a honey!

I bought a 66 wagon with unused leather upholstery throughout, not running
and not all together, but complete, for $1005. It was in Tulsa, 40 minutes
south from here. Body pretty good except for the nose. Carbs and clutch
cylinders off.

or the question is "why sell it?" Portland (at least the one I'm in, OR) is a very volvo friendly area.
Dan (former 122s 1964 owner, who still misses it) 72 1800e, and hopefully another 122 soon.

Well, it belongs to my son, who fell in love and moved to Poland, leaving behind THREE of these babies. One is on the road and being driven by my daughter, one is covered with moss and sitting in the woods as a relic from a movie he shot (wherein he wrecked it by driving it down a hill and into a tree!!*@*!!) and this one is just pining away for lack of company.
So I'm being a helpful mom. This present exercise is after helping sell his Bayliner and his rowing shell to boot!
What can I say? I love the guy!

yikes, my bad.
I spent the day churning numbers, so misread. Poland not Portland (there is just an r and a t between the two).
so I guess the drive would be a bit out of the question.
This Sunday, I and friend may be coming up to Seattle to look at a 122. If your near where we are going, could we stop by and take a look? The worst that would happen is that we could give a rough estimate by comparison to others that we have seen. (they actually seem to be kinda all over the map)
I'm no means an expert, but I have been looking at 122's.

Sure, I'd be glad to show it to you. It's on Vashon, a 20 minute ferry ride from West Seattle.
Call 206-463-6255 to schedule.

Oh THAT car! Coool!
I met your son (great guy!) and his 122 wagon a while back when he brought it to Portland and had Shayne do some work on it.
We loved his movie. If he's in Poland, my guess is that the movie won't be continued as planned?
I don't remember the car well enough to offer any insight on its value, but Shayne might. He can be reached at ipd; 800-444-6473 (and just ask for him).
If not that, you might call X-Ray Auto in Seattle and see if they can give you an idea - 206-789-5455. Tell them Cameron from Portland sez Hi.
Best,

Hey, I'm thrilled you've met my son, that's great!
Actually, this car is not the one he brought to Portland. That one his sister is driving and keeping happy (both) while her brother's away.
This one is yet in addition to the third one that he crashed for the movie. I asked him if he wanted to sell the crashed one for parts, but he said no, he hasn't given up on finishing the movie yet. But for now he's working in Europe and things are on hold. And I'm helping divest a little.
So thanks for the new leads!

Rondi;
Without pics or a detailed description, what's there to say?
Cheers

Guess you're saying I'm jumping the gun and wasting your time?
I'm collecting that info this week; the car is with a mechanic, I have the pix, but with everyone's help here, I'm learning what questions to ask and how I need to present the info.
Thanks to all!

Hi Rondi: Here's a decent appraisal service on the web. Find you son's car, then look at the categories, 1 to 5, to decide which one it fits into.

Selling any vintage car is often a very subjective process. You can assess the buyer's willingness to pay more than the car is worth. A P220 wagon may be considered a real gem to the right buyer. Another option is to pay to have a professional appraisal done on your son's car. This helps to justify the selling price and can be used by the prospective buyer to have it fully insured, another practise that I strongly recommend. Good luck.

Thanks! I went there and see that it's considered to be in "fair" condition. I'll check ebay too.
What's your take on selling cars on ebay? Good way to go?

Although I've bought many Volvo parts on eBay, I'm not experienced enough to comment of the sale of a car. I can only think that this could become a logistical nightmare, unless the buyer is local to Seattle. You might try the IPD notice board or even the VCOA forum on SwedeSpeed. Both have a buy and sell section. Good luck.

Hmm, guess you're right. thanks.

Values are all over the place, depending on the details of condition. I would look at the "completed items" section of e-bay and see if anything comparable has been sold recently. Also look at various Volvo bulletin boards for what is for sale out there.

Thanks for your help! I'll keep searching.

Maybe someone on here would offer you some money for it and you could avoid Ebay. Where are you located?
