I opened my spare tire compartment this past weekend to find the spare tire totally destroyed. The tread had delaminated and split away from the tire...very strange. Cannot determine what caused this as I used the spare about a year and half ago and it worked well.

Does anyone recommend a way to change this? Is it possible to put a full sized spare on the rim? Will it hold a full sized wheel?

    It's a Firestone tire ... you need to question delamination?!

    I just helped a couple women earlier change a flat on their little Mazda Protege. Left rear firestone tire delaminated and took out parts holding the rear bumper cover.

    But as mentioned, a standard 165/15 will fit that narrow rim just fine. Benefit is that it'll still stay level in the spare tire well, but you're not going to be limited to 50 miles/50 mph issue as a temporary spare.
