Hooked up my fog lights and nothing happened! 200 1990

Well, at least it's better than blowing a fuse. Here's what I have:
From after the 25 amp fuse, a wire running to 30 on the relay
From 87 on the relay, wires going to the lights. (the lights are grounded to the frame of the car.
From 85 a wire going to the spade marked "s" on the switch
From 86 a wire going to the spade marked "+" on the switch

What's wrong?

Thank you

Disconnect the wire at switch "S" and ground it, so that relay terminal 86 is grounded. Connect the now-empty "S" to a point which gets 12V only when low beams are on, as Mario says. On our old 240's this would be the White wire that comes out of the beam switching relay, or one of the Blue wires going to low beam bulbs.

Actually, I do it a bit differently, following the "Euro" wiring specified in the Hella diagrams with my foglamps. Relay terminal 86 is grounded by connecting to a Red wire going to a high beam bulb, and the switch's "S" terminal connects to a parking light feed (Fuse #15). This way the fogs can be switched on with parking lights alone, or with low beams, but go out on high beams as the relay then loses its "ground".

Hello,

Terminal #'s 85 and 86 are the electrical windings for the relay. Terminal 86 needs to go to the voltage from the switch contact. When you operate the lights there should +12volts on that lead. Terminal 85 needs to be wired to ground to complete the circuit. Leads 87 and 30 are OK. The switch should have 12 volts on the + side from a voltage source that is only avaiable with the low beams on. When the switch is throw, the 12 volts should be on the S side. If you a voltmeter or a test lamp it would make the job easier. Hope that helps.

Mario

Thank you! You've solved my problem. Just one thing - how about the little lamp that makes the green light on the switch come on?

The switch should have a single terminal that needs to be grounded. When you throw the switch the bulb lights to this ground. The rear demist switch is wired the same way for a point of referance. Also check that the bulb is good.

Mario
