I found a R-Sport wing for my 240. Now my wife thinks I'm turning into one of those -fart-can-sparco-seats-neon-windshield-washer-19"-wheels-on-my-Honda-Civic kind of people.
I tell her this isn't true. She doesn't believe me. What to do?

I realize i am getting in way late on this thread but, personally I don't like either, bumper(window) sticker or the wing. Just one mans opinion.

Rob,
Definitely too rice. Email me for the address to dispose of it at :-)
Seriously, nice find. I would love to find one for my Flathood. Of course, that is my hobby car. There are a lot of nice looking wings out there but the original Group A version has that look of authenticity.
Was that a one time find or do you have a source?
BTW, all the originals were left black. Most never saw the street.

It is "too rice" indeed. I personally feel that non functional wings on cars are just plain silly (especially on notoriously docile volvos)...but to each his/her own.
On a more constructive/less subjective note, you should consider the fact that the wing does not flow with the contours of, nor does it complement the trunk. It just kind of sits there. I doubt that painting it the body color will correct the clashing lines.

If it blocks the view of the bumper sticker, put the sticker on the top edge of the window. As for hooking up the side marker flashers:

If you paint it to match the car color I think it would look a lot better.
Just out of my own curiosity, how much weight does that thing add to the trunk? Make it any harder to open it at all?

abou tmy 88 325is BMW. I put a S. African flag on the corner of the rear boot (that's where I'm from), as well as a "Tunerworks" sticker along the rear top window. She didn't like it, but I just ignored her saying that she doesn't knwo anyhtign about BWM styling. But after she helped me realixed that it took away form the natural beauty of what BMW was going for, (the car's natural beauty), I changed my mind and removed them. Now the car looks MUCH better. IMO Volvos and some other Euro cars, shound not be messed with.
here's a pic of my pride and joy.....

I would not ask my wife to drive such a car nor would I expect her to not vote for Bush.

Rear Window Sticker = excellent.
Spoiler = eh.
If it were me, I'd sell the spoiler for how ever many hundreds of dollars some nuts are willing to pay for anything "group A" and buy something FUN for the car...strut-strut brace? If you have one of those, I'd hit up some SS brake lines or something of the sort. Anyways, I've just never felt 240s looked right with spoilers. It's not quite what I would deem "rice" yet. For that, you'd have to go definitely more extreme....like a 2 foot tall, multi-level thing. hah. Anyways, best of luck to you.

Awesome rare find! If you posted on T-bricks the thread would be nothing but praise! Have you thought about paint-matching? Granted the Group A spoiler is made for mounting on the older non-raised trunk lids but I still think it looks great! You could always swap lids I believe. I guess you could say mine too fits the "rice" category. Volvo 240 oem 86-93 rear spoiler but I love it and another rare find!!
Best,
Adam

Nice! I was thinking about getting it painted if I liked it. That one is pretty cool too. Does look good matched.
Mine, I repainted the original satin black with "bumper coater" paint, which works well to give the proper look for black finished parts like mirrors and trim.
My Turbo is gonna need LOTS of stuff repainted with satin black.
Hmm, wonder if a V70 wing fits a 245? Better not tell the wife about that...
And we need a pic of your car with the Dracos!

My definition of rice: Adding race-inspired items to your car that have little or no function, yet appear that they might make you go faster. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but to my eye, that wing looks like ass on that car. It's a 4 door right? Ever seen a 4 door race car? Sorry... but you asked :-)

The V8 supercars are Australia's closest equivilant to Nascar, and all the vehicles used are Falcons or Commodores, basic family sedans (albeit 400BHP sedans, which have been lightened by a tonne or so and have almost no original parts left in them)

Is this like the "Taurus" and the "Intrepid" that they race in NASCAR?
I know what you're saying though. But yeah, I have seen some 4-door race cars. Seen a BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) S40 or V40? Those both have all their doors, and stock-looking bodywork.
I'll count it as a vote against, though. At least it's a factory part, not some ridiculous 18" tall hoop on the trunk of a Neon.

Does it really serve any additional funtion on these race-bred cars? Oh, right. It helps to keep your trunk closed in the event the ever threatening trunk latch failure. That must be it. Explain to your wife this necessary safty issue, provided it does not obscure the sticker in the window, which is a much larger safty issue indeed. (But souldn't it read "Re-defeat..."?)
Looks cool though. And chicks dig cool, right? That's what they tell me anyway.
Saw a good bumper sticker not long ago- "Where are we going? And what's with this handbasket?"

Assuming the spoiler doesn't block the window sticker, there's only one thing to do - Get your wife a cookbook on Manifold Cooking. There's no direct connection to the spoiler, but it would make a great place to serve hors d'oeurves...

Oh man, she got ME that book a few years ago. Never tried it of course... now what does that tell you?
Granted this is the first "upgrade" I've done that she's objected to. She loved the tach, the center armrest, the Bilsteins, the strut braces, the Virgos. She did roll her eyes at the GT steering wheel center but she is looking forward to the side marker repeaters I got from our friend in Norway... haven't figured out the wirign for those yet.

:) I figured I'd get a couple of offers like that.
One thing I've noticed, is that the factory racers, the Group A cars as they were known, featured later-model nose sheetmetal. They have the lights and fenders fitted to 86+ US model cars.
Now, I know that the lights changed on US cars in 86 due to new laws allowing aerodynamic (covered) lights. Some markets seem to have gotten the large headlights on the 240 as early as 83. So perhaps all the Group A cars were early body shells with the different lights and fenders that we never got on a 2-door?
Eitehr way, I don't think there's much difference in the angle of the rear deck where the spoiler mounts.
This particular unit did not appear to ever have been on a car before. The M6 brass captive nuts in the bottom seemed to never have been screwed into anything before.
Now I need a GT front airdam to complete the package... already got a "GT" steering wheel center.

Rob, I have a GT airdam pulled from a boneyard last summer for $15.00. It's yours for the same + shipping if you want it. It is silver (duh) and only slightly scraped up along the bottom edge. No cracks and includes mounting bolts. I can get a pic of it if you'd like.

I always trust my wife's judgment, I figure my thinking may be clouded by "cool factor" and she is more of a neurtal observer. That being said I have never thought a 240 looked right with any trunk decorations like that, just me, lots of people like them. It's up to you, Now if you had asked me about your bumper sticker I would have given 100% thumbs up, again, just my feelings.

That's two votes for the bumper sticker, and presumably 2 less for Bush. But that's a whole nother argument isn't it?
Yeah I probably should leave these judgements up to her, but now that the holes are in the trunk... have to have SOMETHING there...
