Sunroof gasket re-waterproof?? S90-V90

97 960 aka V90. well it was a rainy day in Mpls today and despite having the dealer "repair" my sunroof three weeks ago (adjustment/clean drain holes, so they said) I still got a the drips on my head. I immediately stopped to look at it and it looks like the gasket is waterlogged and the sunroof is not leaking per se, but the gasket is sopping up water like a sponge and water is being transmitted in like water flows through a sponge. so the question, has anybody tried putting silicone spray (think boot waterproofing) or some other waterproofing goop on the gasket to prevent this. I have replaced a gasket before on my '86 760 and well, once you factor in the weatherstrip adhesive, well, it was a goopy mess that I was not proud of. but it still does not leak, but then I never open it!! Also, what is a fair price for gasket replacement.

    If Borton fixed it, take it back and tell them to fix it again. Remember, the sunroof is not "water proof", it allows water to drain through the roof and out of the drain holes.
    On my 780, I took a leaf blower and blew out a bunch of leaves and maple seeds and I no longer get wet. I wonder how Borton cleaned out your drain tubes? If they blew air in from the bottom, then the obstruction would move a little and the next batch of rain would wash the dirt right back to the drain hole.
    Go ahead and add water proofing stuff to the seal, it won't hurt.

    We have two of these cars and neither of the sunroof gaskets act as you describe. Could the gasket be installed incorrectly?

      thanks for your response. like I said, the dealer looked at it and said it needed adjustment so whatever that is worth. I have installed one on my 760 wagon and I don't know if they are the same material (my 960 has a glass sunroof)but it does not feel hydrophobic like the 760 gasket did. I still need to recheck the drains since even if it leaks, it's supposed to drain away, not accummulate and drip on your head!. I think I will try taking some silcone boot spray, spraying it into a cup, then use a syringe to impregnate the gasket again. That's the plan anyway.

    Not really sure, sounds like the silicone spray wouldn't hurt, might help so why not. If it were me however, I would hold the dealers feet to the fire and make them fix it since they have already charged you for a repair.
