Simons 2' dual exhaust - I like it! 120-130 1987

Receieved and installed complete "sport" 2" exhaust system yesterday, and am quite pleased. This is dual downpipe to chromed exhaust tip on rear muffler, with all required hanging hardware.

My only criticisms are:

The passenger side emergency brake cable passes over and touches the system.

Although the directions are in either Swedish or Danish (with adequate diagram) I'd like to understand what they've taken the time to impart.

The other problem has to do with the OD speedo cable crossing the front muffler. It passes over the muffler right over the front clamp on the muffler. I've been looking for a good inexpensive right angle drive, but haven't found one yet. This would help.

Sounds good at idle and around town - haven't gotten it out on the road yet. I was worrried about the noise this thing would generate. Well fabricated and good fit. Instead of using the existing rubber doughnuts/hanger for the rear muffler, this system hangs it's muffler from one of the bumper bracket bolts. They supply the rubber hanging strap, and a larger washer for the bracket bolt (I would advise getting a longer bolt though)

$162 + $25 shipping from Michigan

This is behind a B20/ E head/ D cam/ SUs w/KD needles. Found and rebuilt this motor right after 9/11/01.

Simons 2' dual exhaust - I like it! 120-130 1987

Danny, three questions:

One: How loud is it compared to the original setup? I'm thinking of getting one myself, but I don't like loud exhausts.

Two: Any noticable increase in performance (other then psychological)?

Three: Am I correct at thinking the simons bolts right up to the original dual downpipe manifold?

Thanks, Ben

It is not significantly louder. I haven't driven it on the highway, so I don't know what it will sound like going down the road in OD at 75.

Yes, it has more power. Just seems to "get on it" quicker. D cam is reputed to be more of a higher end responsive cam, and this exhaust seems to give it more power and response at lower end. I just spent $187, so of course my engine now has more power.

As most others will have mentioned, exhaust is only one component in the "intake-to-exhaust tip equation, but my intuition (hah!) was that with the increased volume of the B20, a 2" system was gooing to make an improvement over the stock 1-1/2" dual downpipe system. And yes, this bolts up swell to the dual exhaust manifold - no contact anywhere.

I am a little concerned about the increased heat in that part of the engine compartment as a result of more surface area (downpipe diameter is a little larger), dissipating heat. Although maybe it's just that NEW metal may dissipate heat better than rusted metal.

In NL you can probably purchase this for even less. I believe that this was manufactured on your side. I'd be curious.

Yeah, I can get them here aswell, but for a price varying between $175,- to $225,- so you got it at a reasonable price I'd say.
I'm looking for an exhaust that is less resrictive then the original one, but does not make more noise. Maybe I should just go for it, and put an extra mufler at the end if it's too loud imo.

Thanks, Cheers, ben

No. 1967 2 door. Doesn't look that good, but mechanically great.
