How many 240's can you spot in a day? 200

In Atwater Village, an area of Los Angeles, I can count at least 8 different ones on a 3 block drive from my house to a store. When I went to the South Jersey shore I counted 2 the whole time I was there.

How many 240's can you spot in a day? 200

On average, one or two (not including mine!). Ain't too many 240s in these here parts! Plenty of XC90s, S/V70s, S/V60s and 850s. A few 700s. One 1800, 544, 140, and 780 spotted every blue moon.

How many 240's can you spot in a day? 200

I lived in Atwater Village for 6 years before I moved back to Santa Barbara...tons of 240s there...

Here in SB they are very common, although I do see more new FWD cars than I do 240s anymore. I pulled into In & Out Burger the other night and parked the 242t between a 164, a 745t and a late 245. It seems the 240 is very popular with the college and surfer crowd, something we have in great abundance.

My brother, once as much a Volvo geek as I, lives in Nebraska now. He tells me that he's suprised if he sees one Volvo a month and never sees older RWD cars.

How many 240's can you spot in a day? 200

Helped my daughter move to UC Berkeley last month and saw about one 240 per block in Berkeley and residential Oakland-Piedmont area parked on street or in driveways. Also lots of 700s and older 850's. She won the "spot the 240s" contest, as I had to take the occasional look for traffic, stop signs, cars, kids, etc.

Her 240 has not increased the Volvo population there, as she decided it was too expensive to keep a car at Cal and not a necessity. So I'll keep it in storage here until she graduates. We've had it 21 yrs, it's in very nice "low" mileage condition and is part of the family.

Phuh - well, apparently not many of you have spent time in and around Providence. ;)

I've lived in Boulder, and as far as I know, my '82 245 wagon is still making the rounds out there somehere along with lots of other specimens of Swedish engineering in that nice, dry climate - but in my experience the undisputed 240 (wagon, at least) capital of the world HAS to be the East Side of Providence, Rho-Dilun. :) It is absolutely astonishing how many people drive these cars in this town! They're not all pretty, but they're everywhere - cruising down the road, parked on the street, in driveways. It's the coolest!

Charleston, SC, has a healthy collection of 240s. I've seen eight in one fifteen minute trip across town. Nearly all are later-model (I can only think of one or two I regularly see that is pre-'86), but there is one 242T and 245TIC I've seen driving around.

Greenville, SC, where I go to college, has a very small selection of 240s. There are maybe four others driven by students here on campus, and I've only seen two out on the roads in the past two weeks. Last year I was probably below the one-per-week frequency. I think all of the 240 owners traded for BMWs when the BMW plant moved here.

Go to Charlottesville, VA 200

I think I have discovered the unarguable chief city of residence for the Volvo enthusiast in the United States. Without a doubt it has to be Charlottesville, VA. You have the combination of the Washington D.C. commuter traffic combined with the University of Virginia crowd... seems like every other car there was a volvo. I lived there in 94-95 and as I recall most were 240's.

Seeing so many of them is what made me want to buy one. I just loved seeing a classic looking car that was reliable AND didn't change it's body style every six months so as to make you feel like you were driving an outdated vehicle.

It seemed to me that most of the Volvo owners there were not just 'keeping up with the Jones' but had actually discovered a reliable vehicle which made sense to keep around for 20 years....

Just my two cents.

I bet they have some great 240 boneyards there...

usually none in a day... 200

Regina Saskatchewan.
If I do see one, if it's newer, it's in great shape....if it's older, i can guarantee that it's probably rusted out.
Usually I'll see about one every week(not too often)

Too many to count... 200

And not just limiting my self to the 200 series...

I also see lots of 140s, 160s, 1800s, 122s, and even a few 444/544s... in my neighborhood alone.

Portland is Volvo country. I guess that's why IPD does so well out here.

I live in Lexington, KY and see 4-5 daily as I drive to and from work. See lots of them in driveways all over town. Lexington is a strong Volvo town with a large dealership here since the 60's.

In Boston I usually see an average of 5-8 240s in various states of condition daily whether driving to work or walking around town.

Best,

How many 240's can you spot in a day? 200

I lived in Berkeley, Ca while I did my undergrad there a couple years back. I could count a 240 on almost every neighborhood block. The density of Volvo's there is huge. Now I live in south SF bay area and the density is not quite as high. But my commute to work is only a couple miles and I spot a few 240s on the way.

Not a whole lot of rust out here. This is where Volvos go to live long happy lives.

I live in Arlington, VA (near DC); lots of Volvos out here. I saw maybe 3 other 240s this AM en route to work (20 miles). My next-door neighbors have two--a 745 and a 166, and we have two 240s.

I think it's only the "liberal" areas of the country that have them in such abundance. Growing up in TX, they were rare as rats in a snake store.

I agree about Volvos existing in liberal areas. There's a village east of Dayton, Ohio called Yellow Springs which is extremely liberal. (I think the anti-Bush movement started there!) There are plenty of 240 and older Volvos there. The local private liberal college only adds to the Swedish population.

Outside of Yellow Springs in the rest of the Dayton area, not so many bricks except the new ones...and mine.

Vanishing 240s in eastern PA 200 1993

Its amazing the difference 10yrs can make. It would seem the "oxidation monster" has taken its toll here as well. I commute about 70mi per day through the western Phila. burbs and see maybe 2-3 other 240s on the road. Sometimes I give `em a wave.....they just look back at me with a puzzled look on thier face. Volvo enthusiasts they are not.
