Made it... barely. 444-544

Doesn't this figure? The 544 is running pretty good and the damn '91 245 decides to eat both it's alternator belts at the top of Kenosha Pass. Ran the car just long enough with no belt that it overheated a little. The o-ring on the top of the water pump started leaking a healthy stream of green liquid on the side of the highway. I go back down the road 20 miles in the 544 on a fruitless search for parts, I take the water pump off and try to make the o-ring stop leaking. I think I made it worse. Finally, just took the power steering belt off, put it around the water pump and alternator, filled it up and started driving.

We drove over 200 miles, stopping every 15 miles to fill up the reservoir, I left the cap off to keep the pressure out of the system. The 544 puked a bunch of it's coolant out at the top of another pass but I just refilled it and it didn't happen again. the 300 mile trip took about eleven hours. Probably used seven gallons of water and 4 or 5 gallons of antifreeze but both cars are home. Anyone who wants to find my house, just follow the trail of antifreeze down 285. It leads right to my door!

WHEW!

Ahh - Kenosha Pass. Rode my mt. bike from there to Georgia pass and back. It was nice and sunny and warm down low, up at the top of Georgia Pass it was near freezing and spitting rain. Great ride.
