M47 Reverse Contact Switch 200 1987

Hello All,

I hate to repost, but didn't get any answers on this one.

Is it possible to remove the reverse contact switch from an M47 manual gearbox without dropping it out of the car? If so, what nut size is on the thing?

TIA,

Just to give my two cents worth. My mechanic and me tackled this particular job a few months ago (just after we replaced the tranny-he forgot to replace the back up light switch (reverse contact switch). To do the job without dropping the tranny, we had to loosen the crossmember and use a pry bar to move the tranny a bit to the right (passenger's side-enough to get a hand in there). I believe the socket is 22mm, but cannot remember for sure. The re-installation process was the same. Use a giant pry bar and move the tranny about 3/4"-1" to the right (passenger's side). We then bolted the crossmember back into place.

Todd :-)

OH, WTF, I have to do everything myself so I went out and put the 22 mm long socket (7/8) on it and it is the one. Top of tranny left side, I bet you could get it. I can get the reverse switch on an M46 with the right socket and right angle breaker bar so try that. Then try dropping the crossmember.

Sometimes you just have to tackle these things (when none of us skow, sorry), then you become the solution to the next guys asking.
