760 air conditioning blows the fuse 700 1990

If I start the engine with the ac swich depressed, I hear the fuse, poping, then I change it and turn off the ac, and everything else works- ecc unit functions, heating works, I didn't try the windshield defroster as this engages the AC, trying to find this AC relay and check it out,
Any ideas?

I had this happen on the 240, and I found that one of the wires in the compressor harness had its insulation flake off and was grounding out on the engine. You might take a quick peak under the hood, trace the wires back from the compressor and see if there are any spots that have bare wire showing through.
