Reoccurring brake light burnout S90-V90

For about the third time in less than a year now I've blown a brake light. I actually haven't looked to determine whether it the same, but I'm assuming it is. It really gets fried. Each time I changed them (pairs), I made sure the contacts were clean and tight. Any suggestions for a more thorough search would be appreciated.

Is there any chance that water is somehow dripping onto the bulb?

Actually, I thought that was it. I had spoken with my Vovlo mechanic friend and he described the bluishwhite burnout as a result of a water leak. Since it had poured the last day or so from Ivan, I thought I had it figured out, thanks to his help. But when I took the bulb out later today, it was actually good. I turned the light asembly several times and the bulb out indicator no longer iluminated. Tomorrow, when I have have more time, I'll clean those contacts better. Still could be water that caused the first ones, but apparently not this one.

Rain water will only cause bulbs to blow when they're hot (i.e. on), not sitting in the driveway getting soaked.

Gee, thanks for pointing this out This may have escaped many readers.... do you think? The corollary to this rule, however, is that water has to be first present in order for a hot bulb to be touched by it...hence the reference to IVAN.

All sarcasm aside, since it's a dual filament, all that has to be on are the rear running lights.

Hi John,

Shatz, the oil from your fingers can cause premature bulb burn out. If you clean the glass part with rubing alcohol and use a glove or cloth when installing it, it should last
