Mornin,

My 960 has been making some weird noises... For the past couple of days, everytime i push on the acc it'll make a humming noise. If I put it in neutral, it won't do it if i push on the pedal...

I looking around the FAQs and could not find anything. I also looked under the hood, and couldn't find anything.

p.s. the dust cover has always been missing a screw, I don't thats it... please help! i hope its nothing serious

Maybe your engine mounts are worn. I am just drawing that conclusion because it only happens under load. A little too much movement in the engine mounts or trans mount then the next thing you know is the exhsust system clearances are changed.
Get under the car, while it is safely raised that is, and try wiggling the system listening for rattles.

Or worse, your trans is fixing to leave town with out you. Any neutral drops lately? Just kidding, how does the trans fluid look? The belt driven accessories? The timing belt pulleys? A vacuum leak under the dash?

This could take you some time to chase down, it could be so many things.

I'll still have to check what you said... but if this helps: I've changed the timing belt, R eng mount bracket*, and spark plugs recently. All within 3000miles. serpentine was changed about 6000miles ago. All done by a volvo specialist.

The A/C does cut off during acceleration, regarding the vacuum leak...

Transmission is acting completely normal.

its really hard to explain...

the noise is almost instant when the accelerator is pushed. the sound comes from the engine, but only when in D, not in N.

Sometimes it happens, by sometimes, like today, it did not.


I thought it might need an oil change. Last synthetic was 3000 ago... sythetic should last 5k... still does not make sense.
