XC90 V8! 200

Giddyup! Did anyone else see this story on swedespeed.com? Volvo designed the motor specifically for the XC90 but I can think of some more good applications.
Seeing as how the motor is mounted transversly wouldn't it be sweet if someone shoehorned it into an 850/*70/S80 or even an S40?
Wouldn't it be nice to cruise around in an R with that sweet V8 rumble coming out twin 3" pipes? Hehe

Developed by Yamaha as told in the previous message, 4.4 l, 60 degree angle between cylinder banks and a counter rotating balance shaft, 315 hp/440 Nm (torque, don't know what that would equal in american units but pretty strong for a naturally aspirated engine), 190 kg/419 lbs (only slightly heavier than the already lightweight 960/90 I6. The car will also have a sex speed AW auto.

Check this link to the swedish edition newsletter of Auto Motor & Sport for a pic:

Seems like this one could be a small nightmare to maintain after 10-15 years or so...four cat converters, too. The text also tells that the exhaust cams are driven by separate chains from their respective intake counterpart but doesn't reveal whether the main drive is by belt or chain.

The XC90 is supposed to do 0-100 km/h (0-62.5 mph) in 7 seconds with the new engine.

I'm a member of shoforum.com and this story passed through that forum awhile back.
It's supposed to be developed by yamaha *they made the very sophistocated (for 1989) 3.0 dohc dual-stage-intake v-6 for the 1989-95 SHO, and collaborated on the v-8 for the 96-99 SHO*

That info was just published last week in the "ROLLING" VCOA magazine. Any of the brickboarders who have a membership with Volvo Car Owners of America (like me), get ROLLING every copule months for free. There was an interview published in this issue with some of the big guys at Volvo and they mentioned that the V-8 is under development.

-Also mentioned was the "Evolve S40." The Evolve vehicles are terriffic for owners who like to play with things.

God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.

On a dark and stormy night, in a backyard workshop somewhere, someone is already rubbing their hands together as they sketch plans to drop it into their 240.
