16-valve 740 Timing Cover source? 700

Help! The upper rear timing cover on my '89 740 GLE 16-valve is falling apart. I want to replace it while I'm changing my timing & balance belt, but I can't find a source. The volvo dealers I called around here (Brooklyn) want $170, $140, and $100 for the part. When I went to the $100 place and they found out that they couldn't order it, and the replacement Volvo suggested was to change all the rear timing belt covers with a new type, totaling around $370! IS there any cheaper way? Are the timing covers from junkyards going to be just as bad?
Thanks,
-Fran

Parts for the B234f are hard to come by at junkyards. You can sometimes find stuf on ebay. Search for B234f. I located and purchased a good used cover by putting a parts wanted ad in the free classified section of the Brickboard site. New stuff is quite high especially from the vulture dealers, many of whom mark it up astronomically. This is not a common engine and everything is more $$$ as I'm sure you are discovering. Good Luck.

You should be able to find a good one at a boneyard. If you can't find one locally try these folks http://www.vlvworld.com/
Call, they should be able to help you

I found a junkyard in California that sells an entire set of timing covers for $45 - which is way better than the $370 Volvo wanted. They'll also ship the covers out to Brooklyn for $15, so all-in-all a good deal. I'm very relieved, as I don't mind spending money on new parts, but Volvo's prices are just insulting. Plus spending $370 on a couple of plastic bits would ruin the joy of getting an '89 GLE for 500 bucks.

The junkyard I found is http://www.volvosaabparts.com and they seemed friendly and knowledgable.
