front end vibration problem 700 1989

Hello all,

I have a vibration that feels like the right wheel is shaking or hopping whenever I turn right at highway speeds (>100km/hr)around low angle bends. This does not happen when turning left or at low speeds. The steering wheel doesn't shake, but I can feel the vibration through it. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Well, to elimate some of the items. I would move the front wheels to the rear. And see if the problem goes away or stays. That way you can narrow down the problem if its wheel/rims or the front end.

front end vibration problem 700 1989

I had a similar long term front vibration problem on my 87 760 wagon, UK spec. Coupled with this was a toe-in on the front wheels which meant that the outer shoulder on the tires would wear down prematurely. Volvo dealer could not correct this problem. Through the brickboard FAQ I found a post on the Hunter (American made?) wheel alignment machine, and managed to track down 1 tyre shop here in Scotland who had this machine. I went to them and had 4 Energy E3A tyres fitted (old tyres needed replacement), and the wheels aligned on their pro-align hunter machine. This was done with the wheels on the car. Afterwards I noticed that the balance weights fixed to the wheel rims by other tyre shops who had aligned wheels while off the car in the past were removed and no longer needed.

Upon test driving, my car was driving like new and the wobble completely gone. I believe you have the Hunter alignment machines in the US which I would warmly recommend. However I do not know if your problem could stem from other worn out parts at the front. Hope this helps though. Nothing more frustrating than vibration.
