Bad Vibrations 700

Hello all,
Just recently replaced motor and tranny mounts, as well as tailshaft housing bushing. I have this awful vibration that is present even at idle and gets worse as rpms are raised to 1100 rpm. I've checked the exhaust system for contact with the body and all the mount fastners. The vibration resonants thru out the interior at 1000 to 1100 rpm and its pretty bad on the road. It only lessens at very high speed (65-70 mph) Could this be a problem with the exhaust system? It wasn't this bad even with shot motor mounts and a non exsistant trans mount. Any ideas?
Reguards,
RustyWagon

I've found the problem. My HELPER was left to install trans mt when we did the motor and trans mounts. The mount for trans was installed Upside down! Duh.

Well, I found my rattle by pushing on a couple of exhaust components. You’ll also find this answer in the FAQ. I should have remembered. There are two heat shields around the down pipe and one on the cat (also one bolted to the exhaust manifold). On my car, it is the lower heat shield, accessible from below. Many people remove them. I don’t like that idea. I am going to drill a hole adjacent to the crimp and put a bolt in place to help clamp it tight. If the cat heat shield is loose, don’t remove it for sure. It’s needed to keep the cat hot and to prevent car from catching on fire.

Hello Rusty,

My 1993 T-Rex has a vibration at idle and up to about 20-30 MPH. It’s not too bad and I’m just living with it, till I get a round tuit. It has a butchered up exhaust system with a broken upper strap on the muffler. (Natural vibration of the engine’s exhaust and whatever is loose accentuates the rattle.)

Since you can feel it at idle like mine, I am still leaning toward the exhaust system. You may be able to make it change or go away temporarily by pushing (hard) on different parts of the exhaust. You might have to get under the car and inspect closely. If that doesn’t do anything post back.
