partial M41 fluid change 120-130

Here I am again in another minor pickle...

Overdrive quit working a few weeks ago, and I figgered it was low on oil as is usually the case. Figured I may as well just change it while I was there, so I drained the old oil... only got about 1/2 quart, so that probably is the problem.

Trouble is, someone (NOT me) seems to have rounded off the filler plug. I can't get it with the resources at hand... so I'll just fill it from the shifter hole. Question is, I don't know how much oil to put in there.

Anyone got an idea as to how much oil to put into a Jtype M41? And how much may have been left in the overdrive itself, as i didn't drain that...

Even just a factory spec would do... I can estimate whats left in the OD.

THanks,
Matt

I think a quart would be pretty good since you didn't drain the
OD. Got the old-style shifter, right?
(This WON'T work on the remote shifter - just plain MESSY!)
The 1972 manual shows capacity as 1.6 liters = 1.7 quarts.

Thanks... makes sense. Yea, I got the wobble stick, so it'll work fine. It is the 122 that is getting the service.

I find that when I drain thoroughly from the main gearbox plug and then open the OD drain plug, I get almost nothing from the OD. I wouldn't assume there's more than half a cup left in there.
