Hi, I have a 1985 245ti with a B21FT motor and I'm replacing the water pump now and I was wondering if I needed to go and get any sealants for the gaskets. The bentley says I need petrolum jelly for the o ring, but what about the rest? Thanks in advance.

    If all mating surfaces are clean, generally nothing is needed for the gasket. However, I like to use a thin layer of black or orange rtv on the gasket. Don't overdo it. And vaseline on the rubber seals.

      The beg deal is to be very careful cleaning the area under the head that the "O" ring seats to. Don't scrape it with any metal object, the aluminum will scratch. Then the "O" ring will not seal good. Last time I used a flat peice of plastic to clean the area, seemed to seal very good.
