444/544 Side Passenger windows 444-544

Hello all,
I am in the process of investing in a 1957 444. But I'll post more about me and the car in the intro section a bit later...

The 444 has the stationary side passenger windows. I have the opportunity to purchase a pair of pop-out hinged windows from a 1960 544. I know that in 1958 the rear window was made slightly larger. Did this affect the size of the rear passenger windows as well? I guess my question is: can I use the 544 pop-out windows in my 444? I know I will have to replace the seals: any other considerations? Anyone else done this swap?

Thanks!

According to this Norwegian PV web site, the rear quarter windows were avaible as a "ventilator" option for the 444. This web site has a brochure of all the "export" accessories: http://www.darak.no/PV/444accessories1.htm
So, your 444 would be acceptable with these installed.

Hi; You can go on do the swap, there are no changes whatsoever in the shape or the size of the rear passenger windows between a 544 and a 444.

The only consideration may be of the puristic kind; these windows with hinges were never fitted to a 444, and they were only options on the 544 (I think all US-exported cars were fitted though.)

Thank you for the information Ola.

I'll put the hinged windows in. I will of course be keeping the original stationary 444 windows in case I ever decide to restore the car to its original state.

regards,
