760 trans cross member, transmission mount 700 1986

The vehicle I'm working on is an '86 760 turbo wagon. after getting it running earlier this week I took it for a test drive and noticed vibration and sometimes a knocking from what appeared to be the drive shaft. Getting the vehicle up on stands, I found that the rear of the transmission is sitting on the cross member, no rubber damper, no bolts, just sitting on the cross member. There is also no support arm from the cross member to the exhaust header. A clod of dirt and pieces of rubber were found on and around the cross member.
Problem, when looking at the Haynes repair manual they show a tubular looking cross member. The one on my car is a stamped metal, with a "U" cross section for strength. When I look for transmission mounts all I find are rubber cylinders with a stud on both ends. I can't even find where, if these are the right ones for my vehicle, they should attach to the transmission and/or the cross member.
Can anyone give me more information about the mounting method for the transmission? Also, is there a way to verify the front to back location of the engine and transmission in the vehicle. I'm a little concerned that with this much damage to the transmission mount, the drivetrain may have been moved rearward.

    On the 86 you have a round mount under there, there is a bolt which goes through the tranny then through the cross member and there is a bolt on the other side, it is right underneith the ext houseing. The pieces of rubber your seeing is whats left of your old one, there pretty inexpensive, just go out grab a round one take a hydr jack jack the rear of the tranny up alittle bit, remove that bolt jack alittle more and you should be on your way to a 1-2 hour fix.

    Go to FCP Groton.com . There are pictures of the mounts for the various years. Some are round; some square (I think the 86 is round). Unless your engine mounts are shot, the drive train can't move back and forth, although a bad tranny mount would stress them. I have 90 760 Turbo. It uses a square mount. If the rubber deteriorates and falls off, the lower plate will still be bolted to the cross member and the upper stud still attached to the transmission.
