massive interior water leak 700 1987

Fellow bricksters,

I am experiencing a difficulty with my 740GL when it rains. We live on fairly hilly area and as a result the car is always either facing downhill or uphill, and whenever it rains it always accumulates water in the left hand side of the car in both passenger footwells (front & back). I have looked at the FAQ sections and it does mention this situation but refers to a car without air conditioning and mine has air. Apparently this is a common issue with 740's, is this true.

Cheers

What the FAQ says is that the vent is there for Euro spec cars without A/C. That's what's likey leaking. It's the "plug" (so to speak) for that vent. It's right near the driver's left foot -- behind the plastic panel (kick panel). It has a seal that should be air & water tight. But the seal can fail, giving you a leak. Look again at the FAQ, and you should be good to go.

    Good luck.

Look for the FAQ section on leaks in the air vent panels on the sides of the footwells.

My 91 leaked also and it turned out that the front windshield drooped creating "channels" in the windshield "glue" thus greating the leak. .The fix for me was to administer flowable silicone for leaks, available from your local parts store! You can suspect drooping by observing how even the black decorative dots are spaced around the sides of the windshield in relation to the moulding. If your is like mine of course. Hope this helps
