ATF oil grade 200 1984

The handbook for my 84 240GLE with automatic states that the tranny takes Dexron II. I have been unable to find that grade oil. Does Dexron III supercede II? What oil is safe to use if I can't find Dexron II ??

    Yep. Dexron/Mercon is the latest version. That is what you will use in the trans. For an '84 though, you will need to use F-type in the power steering pump (that is debatable and I think dexron will work. But, I had an '84 in '84, and I remember the old Volvo mechanics insisted on F-type for the power steering. I've used it for that purpose ever since.)

    Dex III/mercon is suitable.
