IACV ??? 900 1991

Hi,

So I cleaned my IACV on my 91 940 SE today..hooked up the two hoses and went to school..sitting on the stoplight and I just remembered that I forgot to reconnect the wiring harness..parked the car reconnected the IACV and the car ran fine from my house to school which was 10 miles away..my question is..what is the fucntion of the IACV? Since it wasn't hooked up, should my car stall or not run?? Very confused..thanks!!!

IACV ??? 900 1991

Interesting story.

The function of the IACV is to allow air into the engine when the throttle plate is totally closed. Thus its name: Idle Air Control.

HOw come your car ran OK with the IACV disconn? Did it idle reasonably? Not too high and not too low? Maybe when you finished cleaning it, the innards were left in a partially open position that allowed an air volume that made for a reasonable idle speed?

Just my guess.

Regards,

Bob

So... 900 1991

..does this mean that our cars could run without the IACV as long as the IACV plate is open???

Without it your idle would inconsitant to say the least. If you look at it the IACV basicly creates a controled vacumm leak(letting air in),to let the engine idle smoothly when the throttle plate is closed(blocking air to the intake).
