What's the most likely cause of a stiff shifter? It doesn't grind, it's just damn hard sometimes to put in first. What I do, while waiting at a light, for example, is shift into one of the higher gears and kinda work it back into first.
Where in the clutch peddle stroke should it be engaging. It's right at the top with this car ('89 245 5 speed) which I've had about a month. Haven't messed too much with the drive train yet.

There is an adjustment under the rubber boot. I've not done it yet, but need to soon. If you do a search in the archives, you will find a lot on it.

Sounds like your clutch cable needs to be adjusted.

ya may as well change your tranny fliud to some Redline MTL....it's worked great on both of my BMW's
