Noisy fanbelt remedy question 200

My 240 has a noisy (squeaky) fanbelt. What product is the best to use to eliminate this annoying sound? Thanks for your suggestions.

Noisy fanbelt remedy question 200

Depending on the year of you car, and if teh AC is gone anyway, you can use the IPD kit to bypass the compressor, which is supposed to quiet things some. (I haven't done this, but it is on the to-do list)

Noisy fanbelt remedy question 200

Thanks for the suggestions. I will check alignment and tension first. Then replace belt if it seems old. Won't use any chemicals on the belt.

Noisy fanbelt remedy question 200

This is probably a dum question but why don't you just tighten the belt
so it can carry the load? Anything you put on it will either make it
slip silently or stick to the pulley making it less efficient.

Belt dressings are for flat belts, NOT V-belts.

Noisy fanbelt remedy question 200

You can spray fan belt dressing or WD40 to silence it, but it should be changes in the near future

When you replace it, check very carefully that the pulleys are all aligned. I found after replacing the waterpump that the fan pulley was very slightly out of alignment with the others, so tending to rub more on one side of the belt. I put 4 thin washers behind the pulley attachment bolts to move it forwards a fraction.
Also chech for wear in the alternator rubber bushes.
