How do you take off the V-belts? 200

Hi, I have a 1985 245ti and I need to replace the water pump, but I don't know how to take off the V-belts. Could somebody tell me how to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Charles

My '84 245ti has a B21ft, I was under the impression '85 did too. The NA cars got the 2.3l engine.
I guess you'll have to loosen the alternator pivot and adjustment, but I wouldn't even mess with taking apart the split crank pulley. What a pain. I'd try to roll the outer belt(AC?) off the pulley before I'd split the pulley.
There is no tensioning device on the alternator, which means carefully prying with a bar while tightening the hardware.
I've never done this exact job. Do you have a manual to refer to?

You probably need to loosen up the alternator. That takes loosening up the lock bolt, and then turning the long adjuster screw to loosen the belts.

Look in the FAQs part of the Brickboard. The engine you have, a B230F, is covered well since it is also used in 700 and 900 models.

Good Luck,

Bob

PS Getting a Bentley manual would help, too.
