CHECK ENGINE CODES 200 200 1990

My 90' 240 with airbag has check engine light on. Performance seems to be normal. FAQ says:
"Note that 200 series DLs and GLs have self-diagnostic capability only for fuel and ignition control. All other systems except 1990-93 SRS require a proprietary tool. For '90 to '93 models with air bags, just jump a terminal to ground to get codes out of the system."
What does that mean "just jump a terminal to ground"? And once you do that how do you read the code? What code list do you use? Would an OBD1 scan tool work on this car?

Can anyone give me a heads-up on this? Thanks in advance.

The instructions to check codes and the list of codes are all in the 700/900 FAQ on this webpage, under Engine OBD or something similar. As I understand it, the codes are all the same for the 240s.

You are making the OBD much more complicated than it is. You can read the codes. Put the pin in #2, turn the oignition to on and push the button for 1-3 sec. Rear the 3 digit code. A Bentley manual for $35 would make this all easy for you.

Position 2 is only the fuel system. You use position 6 to check ignition. I may have these the wrong way round - check the manual.

Pos. 2 is to read codes. Bentley.

Both 2 AND 6 have to be read. Either one can set the Check Wallet lamp.

          Read the Volvo Factory Manual.
