There is a U-Pull-It junkyard near my home (Binghamton, NY) that has many Volvos that come and go on a regular basis, always 200's, almost always 700's and sometimes 100's, 900's and 850's. I've saved myself thousands of dollars over the years here and it's my theraputic "hobby" digging around there. I'd be more than happy to keep an eye out for any parts folks need that they don't want to pay a premium for or can't find (not on a rush basis, I only get there every few weeks). I'd need to make a few bucks for gas/time for my conscience's sake, but it would give me a good reason to log my much needed junkyard hours. I've gotten a computer for my 91 740SE Turbo for $30, break calipers (Girling) for $8, decals for $1 each, transmissions for $100 (and even $39.99 plus core charge ($50) on sale this weekend), fenders for $30, etc...all with a 30 day (from purchase date) money back warranty. Respond to this if you have anything you'd like me to keep my eye out for (Volvo and non-Volvo actually, they have thousands of cars and trucks, most 8 years old plus) and if all goes well I'll put my e-mail address out there soon.

I have my sense of duty to all who get the shaft by "the man" (and those of us who could not otherwise afford to drive such a safe, fun, well built car). Anyway, I don't think all of us within driving range could possibly utilize all of these parts, especailly when they crush them so often. I think you were kidding, if not, sorry?!?!?

How close are you to Binghamton, Volvolina? There is a huge Volvo-only junkyard near Utica, Erie Vo-Vo. They have anything you could possibly want if you don't mind paying the going used part rates. I got tires there for $15 (used), they ship anywhere in the US. My in-laws live fairly close so I just drove over one day when I was up there.

Man - you must be a saint!
Anyway - if you see a rear tailgate cover for a 92 (or thereabouts) 740 wagon - med dark grey plastic with a lighter grey carpet inset - I would be very grateful.

I'd be interested an any performance parts for an '89 740 turbo:
ipd sway bars
Chassis braces
RRFPR
Lowering or Sport Springs (any brand)
Exhaust (performance, large diameter, Dynomax, Flowmaster, Catco parts, etc.)
Shocks/struts (Bilstein HD or Koni Sports)
Intake aftermarket kit (for cone filter w/ heat shield, etc.)
A-arm guage pod/guages
Replacement Parts Needed:
134a AC compressor (low milage)
Condenser
Dash cap, black (perfect condition)
Sunday 9/26 I'll be driving up that way en route to a 2-day HPDE event at Watkins Glen. If you find anything, I can meet you early afternoon.
Maybe I could put you "on call" Monday & Tuesday in case I break the car at the Glen? (LOL)

I'm within 45 minutes of the Watkins Glen. What will you be driving? I'm not familiar with HPDE. I've never seen any good aftermarket parts on the Volvos at the yard but I certainly do keep a look out. The condenser would probably show up, and the dashpad too, black seems to be quite regular.

Hi,
I am in need of a distributor for a 1988 760 4cyl turbo.
If you have one cheap, let me know.
Thanks... Dave

Another "U pull it",is in Hazelton, about an hour or so south of Bingington. But, I was fit to be tied. I need a Volvo 740 jack, found two possible donors, in both cases the trunk was locked !! And I was not carrying my "persuasion bar" at the time.
Harry's YouPullit junk yard is about 90 plus minutes from Harrisburg..

If you come across 940 black leather seats (for a wagon) in good shape, I would be interested in the price.
Thanks!

Bucket seats are $9.99 with a $1 core charge at the yard. There was one of these there as I mentioned with the black leather, but it has been crushed. It was hit in the front pretty hard, the best kind as long as you're not looking for front clip parts. You can assume with pretty good certainty that the car was in running condition when it logged it's last mile. I'll keep an eye out...

I could use a couple of the 6-pin din cables to connect the radio to the amp (virtually any volvo from '89 up), and 4 or 5 of the 14-pin offset rectangular vehicle harness connections with attached wire for for the '89-92 radios and amps(this connector is male in overall configuration, with female plugs, and plugs into the back of the radio or into the subharness for the cars with amps)
No hurry at all.

I'll try grab a few next time I'm there if they have them. How long would they be?

The din cables tend to run 2-4 feet long, and are often wrapped up in the sub-harness which also supplies the amp, headunit, and vehicle harness connectors.
You might be able to get the whole gemisch as one package; otherwise, I've found that a small seatbelt cutter / letter opener is handy for slitting the cable bundle wrapping longitudinally without damaging the wires inside. Thanks

Yea, it made me sick when I went back to get the brakes for the other side of my car and the 940 was gone, my brake is still hanging up to this day! I'll send you a note if I see another.

Yes, that is the place. They bring new cars in and take ones out just about every day. I was there this past Thursday. There were three or four 740's (an 84 760, an 87 740 and a few others, none newer than 87 this week) and several 200's from the late 70's to around 90. There was a 95 850 and a 96 940 (the one I got my brake parts from) but they have gone to the crusher before their time. They have many, many good parts on them when they go, but the turnover is so high that they just crush them when it's their time. There is a 95 patrol car there now with an 350 LT1 engine, computer, and 4L60E transmission in it (all likely needing a mechanical rebuild). You could get the lot for around $200 this weekend, wire harness and all. It makes me sick to leave things like this there but I have no room (and a wife!).
Good luck, take the trip sometime, it's worth it!
Philip

It's sad that the yard you mention turns its stock over so quickly. The scrapyard that I use most regularly use keeps a lot of its cars for months before it crushes them; All of the 700s I got parts from in April are still in situ, so hopefully I will get the front bumper off of the 1991 745 residing there during the weekend :)

What are you driving? I have a Red 91 740SE with the "aero" package. The picture you have looks similar except for the black bumpers.

It's a 1990 745SE (UK model) with the early type dashboard, a B200F engine and AW-71 transmission. It's stock apart from Nivomats, a loadspace cover and a Blaupunkt Ontario stereo/CD changer.
Future plans for it include a fitting a set of alloys (Probably the 760/960 type) and a new headliner ;)
