Fuse #9 keeps Failing 700

Help! I have a 1985 740 N.A. Fuse # 9 (Turn Signals, A/C, Power Windows) keeps blowing whenver you try and engage any of the the above three accessories. Replacing the 15A with a 25A will allow you to use the windows but the fuse will get real warm, I realize this is NOT the solution and is potentially dangerous. The problem is the car is with my daughter away at school and I will only have 12 hours to diagnose and fix the circuit later this week. Any suggestions as to what to look for (I looked in the FAQ) would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave F.

    Fuse #9 keeps Failing 700

I have a 1991 744 with the exact same problem. With the small break between hurricanes, I'll be working this weekend to solve the problem. Thank you Steve and Eaglescout for the starting points. If you are unable to find the problem in the 12 hours, you may consider temp. disconnecting the AC. Then try to blow the fuse with the remaining components including fan. If insolated AC issue, that would give her other functions(including windows)until you have more time. Good luck and please let me know results. Joseph

If you look at the first reply there's some good tips in there. First, I don't know where you got the info for your fuse, but there are other things that are on it (some are options): Seat Belt reminders, Seat heater relay and Cooling fan (electric) relay).
My best guess is the wiring harness (If it hasn't bee replaced) becuase the heat of the engines cause them to fail and the A/C clutch wire may be shorting out. It may also be something esle in the A/C because that's the most complex item on the circuit.

You have a short between the fuse and the accessories. Does the fuse get warm when you are NOT activating any of the accessories? If so, then you've got an ongoing short in one of them that is causing an overload when any of the others are activated.
Look first at the fuse and relay tray for loose or stray wires, a failing fuse holder, or melted plastic. Then you will have to trace the circuits to locate the short. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: buy the Volvo OEM wiring diagram manual directly from Volvo. Have them ship priority so you get it in time. This manual makes life much, much easier.
