Fläkt and V-tork 120-130

I was scrounging for parts a few days ago and found these on a scrap dash board... Is them Swedish? Or? Unfortunately, they are the only two.. the ones for lights and choke were missing...

Too bad you couldn't also glean the one that says LJUS.

Great fun to have those installed if you loan your car out when it's cold, rainy or dark!

Best,

My car, assembled in Belgium in 1969, has all the dash labels in Swedish. The temperature meter's label is "temp", the fuel gauge is labeled "bensin". Don't remember what the heater controls read though. "Choke" is the same.

Don't know about the overdrive 'cause my car doesn't have one, but the overdrive is commonly called "överväxel" on the Swedish amazon-forum, so a label for it could have been "ö-växel" or something, analogously to "v-tork".

Hi Cameron: LJUS is "Lights" and I have these on my Amazon-S as well as my PV444. I also have a Swedish accessory on my PV that is an "Extraljus" that was installed on Swedish cars when they changed from driving on the left side of the road to the right. This was used to orient an oncoming vehicle, at night, that the approaching car was on the "right" side of the road!

Fläkt is fan, I think (from the warning under the hood on later models).
No telling what V-Tork is, maybe overdrive?

My badly neglected 123GT has the same nomenclature. Lights are Ljus? I think, but it's been a while since I stuck my head in there. I don't know what history the car must have had to have the controls in Sweedish though.

Was Sweden using std measurements back then? I figgered if it was an import, that the speedo would be in metric, but its not... Could be that someone swapped that out I s'pose...

Yup! "Fläkt" is Swedish for Fan and V-tork is short for "vindskydd torkare" or windshield wiper.

Not quite correct :-) V-tork is "Vindrute-torkare"...

Hence why every bolt on a 122 is non-metric.

There are a few exceptions, but almost everything on a 122 is SAE. Which is odd, because most of a 544 is metric.

I thought the 544 switched from Metric at the same time that the B18 replaced the B16 (but I don't know this, I just think it).

I recently found something on the 444 that really does fit a standard wrench better than a metric one: the bolts that secure the doors to the hinges.

Absolut Volvo.

Well, that's probably right, then. The B16 PV I've been working on is metric, except for the rear suspension. Seems they changed to SAE in '61 and then back again.

Excepting the old H4 SU carburetors fitted on those cars, which were British Standard Whitworth, and nothing fits BSW except BSW. I am still looking for a set of good BSW wrenches.

Moss motors sells a lot of Whitworth tools. E-bay too. I googled Whitworth wrench and got a load of sites. Oh, by the bye, there is also British Pipe specs (neither Whitworth or anything else) in BSP (british straight pipe) and BTP (british taper pipe) for the thread forms. And just to be confusing a "British Standard" that was supposed to superceed Whitworth but (thank gods) SAE took over instead (then metric, or SI).

Mike!
