Need info on Checking/Setting Timing on 1988 B230F 700 1988

Does anyone know of illustrated information concerning checking and setting the timing on 88 B230F after a new timing belt has been installed? I do not see anything in FAQ.

Thank you,
Mike

You realize that the timing belt controls VALVE timing, not IGNITION timing. Ignition timing (typically checked with a timing light) is computer controlled -- and is not adjustable (at least on my car).

It is adjusted and not set with the computer on 1989 and earlier.

    hi there,
checking a timing ona B230F engine is easy with timing light.. connect he timing lidht cables to battery and no 1 sparg plug wire.. and check ur timing .. ti should be 12 degrees if i am not mistaken.. if ur timing advances or retard on each turn that means u will need a harmonic balancer... if ur timing is not rite...(u can't adjust the timing on B230F engines..bc dist. gets the signals fromt he camshaft..) first u need to check ur knock sensor..
    Hope this helps
