Why are there more Volvos in the Northeast and Northwest? 200

I think it's because Volvos are built for cold weather. That's why there are so many Volvos available in the Northeast and Northwest parts of our country. I live in the south and I NEVER see a Volvo in the junkyard nor do I see many on the streets. What's your opinion?

Why are there more Volvos in the Northeast and Northwest? 200

Charleston, SC, is a hot spot for 240s. I've gone driving to get lunch one day and seen eight to ten 240s in fifteen minutes!

The Greenville area is the opposite, however--I've spotted about five Volvos, over and over again, in the nine months I was there for college. I guess Rick Hendrick's here in Charleston just offered really good deals when the 240s were out, or else the Greenville folks dumped all of their Bricks when the BMW plant was built.

Either way, it's tough going at the junkyards. I've seen fewer than ten pre-1981 240s since I've been looking, only a few more turbos, and no GTs, Bertones, or other rare Bricks (a few Classics and SEs, but they just had the different wheels and better options).

A basic DL is great for grabbing crucial parts standard across the line, but I had to give up and get my 52mm gauge bezel from eBay, my 740 eggcrate grille from Dave Barton, and will probably order a power antenna online. There are probably three 240s in any given junkyard where I live, but they are nothing special.

Dude, have you ever been to Santa Monica/Venice? 200

You'll see more 122s in a day there than most people see in a lifetime...Volvos are everywhere down there.

We have our fair share up here in SB as well, enough to support at least 5 indy Volvo shops in a town of about 100k people.

      Ojai? 200

I haven't been to Ojai in a while, but last time I was, there was a really cool shop with all manner of old Bricks.

      Wonder if it's still there...

My impression is that the older cars are more likely to survive a hurricane. Supposedly a new BMW is a write-off if its electronics/computers get wet.

I think it also has a lot to do with the culture of the area, at least here in Portland, where there are more Volvos then any other make.

Also, cars seem to be less susceptible to rust here... probably because the roads aren't ever salted.

Seattle has a high proportion of Volvos as well (especially Ballard.) Here on Bainbridge Island Volvos are actually regarded as being cool to own (we knew that already!)
