Trouble Code & Hissing 900 1996

I have a 96 960. Yesterday, when I pushed the brake pedal, it took a little more pressure to slow down and as long as you hold the pedal it makes a low pitched hissing noise, which lead me to believe the brake power booster. Shortly thereafter(30min or so) the check engine light came on. I took it and had the codes pulled and it read P0172. Which says "Fuel Trim too Rich (Bank 1)". What does that code mean? The guy at Auto Zone did not have a clue. Could the brake presure problem and engine light be related or coincidential. Thanks for any help, Chris.

The brake booster on my '96 960 failed not very long ago. I had the same code and noise as you did. It took about two weeks to total booster failure. You might want to test your booster check valve first to make sure. Otherwise, replacing the booster is a must but straight forward and somewhat messy job.

Me thinks you have a pretty good vacuum leak and the ECM is trying desperately to compensate.
