Removing the bulb out relay completely, what would happen? 200 1988

The bulb indicator light on the dash, keeps coming on, even though all the light bulbs are working fine. I have replaced them in pairs, same brand, same wattage whatever, but to no avail, and that light bothers me.

My question is, what would happen if I remove that big red round light out relay completely. Would the car work fine, or am I asking for trouble.

Any comments are appreciated.

If you're certain you want to give up on the bulb out relay, pull the instrument cluster and remobe the bulb that lights the idiot light. Place a small piece of electrical tape over the opening hole to keep out dust, stray light, etc.

Try to find a used one, i.e. boneyard special if all the other stuff does not work. Generally give away items or nearly so.

Check to be sure both sides of your brake, taillight, headlight bulbs are the same brand, (no joke it makes a difference) also clean the contact surfaces of the taillight circuit board with a pencil eraser and clean the bulb holder contacts and all grounds with fine sandpaper. Check the quick index on my pages I did a couple of pages on light out problems with no bulbs burned out a few years ago, they're still up there. Removing the relay will as stated by others not solve the problem without creating other larger ones. If having matched bulbs in both sides and cleaning all contacts/grounds doesn't solve the problem then either replace the relay or take the bulb out of the warning light.

Well, the lights wouldn't work since the relay's in series.
    Sounds like trouble to me.

I've never seen this light come on without a light actually go out. Maybe you should double check? And since it's such a useful thing why not replace it if it's broken?

    Cheers
