I asked the vendor (in English) what kind of engine it had. I got an
e-message from Astrid in Belgium. Here is what she said:
"Hallo,This engine is the famous B20 engine,1800cc,wich is known for taking 1.000000 km,whitout problems,it has got the original SU carburators, but can also run on LPG gas, aswell as fuel. All I have to do,is change the switch commanding the lights and some finishing tough, which wiil be done for delivery.I will try to aprove the little details concerning the interior,I also give you a written garantie of six mounths on the engine and gearbox, wich is very unusuall for sales on eBay."
As one who translates with some regularity, she obviously is not fluent in
English and used a dictionary. Most of the non-native English speakers on
the brickboard do a LOT better than that!
If that is either a B20 or a B18, I'll gleefully eat your lunch!!

Humm, I think the engine pic is from a different car. The posted car is black, but the engine picture, the car appears to be white or silver...
Something seems fishy...

"Huh?" you are saying. Well, look more closely at the photo of the engine bay... That isn't a 120/130 chassis or I'll eat my dirty skivvies.
She probably attached the wrong photo.

Heh - I hought they'd replaced the entire radiator support and moved things around on the firewall to make it fit. Sometimes your eyes see what you think they should.

Looks awful Mercedes to me too... but hard to say. Can't make out exacly what the description is, but a quick online translation comes up with:
They offer has could utilize had to want incorporate on a very pretty volvo amazone, in condition practicable immediately for everyday life daily use the car Belgian papers and lfährt with gasoline as with LPG. the Interieur a very small bischen worship if you it I ledichlich only a new light switch to perfect and make became can a bischen finishing cloth there the car body völlich restaurierd the car readilyAgainst gas costs and train return trip card.
Bitchen' ride I reckon...

Any idea what that is? It sort of makes me think Mercedes for some reason. I can't tell if it's 5 or 6 cylinder. Notice how they had to relocate the heater blower?

Ummmm ... what were they smoking? ...
... 'cause it appears that the muffler is actually being used as an intake.

That's an intake silencer not a muffler for the exhaust

It appears to have a common European bi-fuel system, with a non-Volvo engine for sure. To beat the high cost of gasoline in Europe, the cost to add LPG (Liquid Propane Gas?) must be worthwhile. While in Sweden, I drove in several diesel V70 taxis. I wonder how long before we start hauling the manure fed, methane producers that were used in Sweden during the second world war?

Looking at the exhaust manifold it's a straight 6, but indeed a non-Volvo engine. (seems to have a single SU carb on it)
LPG can be 'lucrative' as a fuel here in Europe. It costs about 1/3 of regular gas but the roadtax for cars with a LPG-installation are (lots) higher.
Here in the Netherlands in is worthwhile to swap to LPG when driving more then about 20.000 km/year.
Classic cars however (older then 25 years) do not have to pay roadtax at all, so logically there are lots of classic cars with LPG-installations on them.
Milage is a bit poorer and hardened valve seats are a must have.

Not only manure but leaves, grass and almost any kind of carboniferous material that could be destructively distilled (sawdust, coal, rags, etc).
I left a question for the guy asking what kind of engine it was.
Nice looking car! Pretty early.

It looks to me like a Rover P5 3 litre engine - it has that large air intake and the carb peeping out to one side of it - I can't make out the number of ignition leads so I can't say for sure that its a six cylinder but if it is that's my guess!
Specs for that engine quote 120 bhp (with octane levels long gone) so you'd wonder why anyone would bother unless they jst liked the sound of a 6.

He's nailed it. Best pic I could find in a minute of searching, but enough to recognize the air cleaner and radiator:

Yea... I'd say so. Not only did he nail the car from which the engine came, but he nailed waht teh engine picture is of... car and all.

I have to confess to a little insider knowledge - a guy in my local classic car club bought one last year - a real beauty - burgundy paint and cream leather. Once you've looked at one of those engines and seen that air intake you don't easily forget it... If I'd looked more carefully at the photo I'd have noticed the paint colour - I did recheck the front shot to see if they had to modify the front panel because I thought that a six would be too long to fit but I never noticed the paint colour change.
