B20 into '67 122, generator bracket 120-130

I have assembled a B20 to install in my 122 wagon. I eventually will convert to an alternator, but in the interest of getting it running with minimal expenditure now, I installed the generator on the B20 block. My problem is the bracket that attaches to the top of the generator does not line up with the generator because the B20 head is slightly different from the B18 head where the bracket attaches. The bracket is too far forward. I can come up with something that will work, but I wondered if someone else has been through this same problem and has a solution that works.
Any advice is appreciated.
Alan

Alan,
If I understand you correctly, you want the top "adjusting strap"--the stock one is straight and about 7 inches long. But if you go to your local autoparts store, they ought to have a generic chromed one with a gentle bend to it (about 10 inches long). Cut it off where appropriate, drill a hole, and mount. That is how I have my Delco alternator mounted--this should work with most generator/alternators. You may have to grind the end that fits the block to get the right fit. This fix is, of course, easier with a drill press and grinder.

P.S. If "expenditure" is an issue, consider that you can get a Delco alternator for about $35. The trick to the swap is finding/welding a bottom bracket. I have also discovered a nice "third point" bracket for the back of the alternator. If you go this route, let me know and I'll send more details.

Bend the bracket to suit.

I have a (small) box full of different brackets. From the rubber bushed one (shudder) to a very bent unit. You probably need the bent unit. I installed a delco 1-wire alternator so am using the straight one. Don't know the source of the conversion bracket but likely IPD. Came with the engine.

Interestingly, my engine was from a wrecked P1800. The pivot bolt was a bear to remove and replace and once I re-installed the alternator I found it was "cocked" toward the water pump (not in the same plane and at an angle). Subtle persuation with a 3# got the bracket back in line and (miracle of miracles) the pivot bolt is now easy to tighten/loosen.

g'luck,

Mike!

I think there are a couple bolt holes in the front of the head that
you can use. You may have to drill the bolt hole to 3/8".
