Center bearing and carrier costs FCP Groton vs. Dealer 700

FCP Groton has a center bearing and bearing carrier kit for $35.00 (Scan Tech), Dealer wants $145.00 for these two items. Am I confused but why the big difference in price? Is Scan Tech a quality part?

Is Scan Tech a quality part?

No.

However, FCP Groton also sells an SKF branded (a higher quality part) center carrier bearing. That's the most important part.

I'm not sure how the rest of the ScamTech kit compares to the Volvo branded stuff.. but when in doubt you may consider a Volvo branded support and an SKF bearing.

For a better dealer price, contact www.borton.com.

Scantech is a wholesale aftermarket firm that repackages a variety of Volvo and Saab parts under its own brand name. It focuses on price and value. Some of their stuff is great, some is crap. Some is OEM quality, some comes from low-end suppliers. It seems you take potluck with these guys.

- It focuses on price and value.

Actually, they just focus on price. Value cannot be determined until labor costs and longevity gets factored in. In some instances, going cheap on parts is even more expensive, as documented by Dave Shannon on trailing arm bushings.

Oops, sorry about previous blank post - finger trouble....

As I've said in a previous posting, my experience with the FCP Groton Scantech product was unhappy as regards the (Chinese ?) origin driveshaft bearing on my 940. It has been noisy right from the start, and a weekend job coming up is to drop the driveshaft and take it in to get the bearing replaced with a quality brand one (eg SKF) FCP to their credit gave me a new replacement bearing, but given the cost and hassle involved in replacing this part, I'll not use their no-name replacement...

Thanks for the quick input! I will go for quality and will spend a bit more to avoid inferior products. My car has 237k and I'm expecting it to go 500k or more (if I don't hit a moose). "Volvo for longevity"
