My 1980 240 needs the whole front strut assembly on both sides. Anybody know where I might find used parts. And what years will fit. Will any 240 work? And about how much should I reasonably pay? Thanks

In your area is a guy (Dan) that wheels and deals in Volvo parts. Contact him at ddvman@comcast.net. Not too far off RT 30, Columbia, Lancaster area.

He claims he has over 200 Volvos. I saw at least fifty.

Where is this guy???? I live in Lancaster City, and the only real place I know of is Sweedish Motors in Marietta (that is, since that cool place along Columbia Ave. a little before Centerville road closed when the owner passed away). I've had only one experience with Sweedish Motors, and it was a very good one. (Winter, no OD with good relay, must be selonoid, took it in, just chaffed wire, only charged a little labor charge to fix, beats grubbing around under the car in an icy/wet parking lot.)

Also, I'm not sure if they will have what the original poster needs, but for local replacement parts, AutoMetrics at the intersection of Manheim Pike and main street in E. Petersburg can't be beat. Everything I've bought from them cost less than FCP Groton, and you'll save the shipping costs.

Best to email him. Can't find his phone #, or the directions.Dan works out of his house, but he has quite a variety of Volvos here and there. He has a source/ or sources for OEM and NOS as well.

Did the lower spring seats rust through? You can always get new galvanized ones from the Volvo dealer welded on - I've done this and it works great. This is a good thing to do if you plan on rebuilding them and/or can't find ones that aren't rusted in the junkyard.

I paid $25 per side at a TN salvage yard. I pulled them off an 86 244. Each side included the ENTIRE assembly from the strut mount bearing down to the control arm and everything inbetween including the spring, hub, wheel spindle & bearing, rotor, calibur, and ball joint. One side even included the wheel and tire. Taking the complete assembly makes removal at the salvage yard quick (30 minutes each) and easy. The tie rod end does need to be separated from the hub. I completely rebuilt the assemblies at night during the week and then changed them out on the weekend. This minimized vehicle downtime. I've got two old assemblies off an 83 setting here in TN but the freight to PA is probably too much. jp

I found both sides (complete) for $75 ea. @ Earl and Jack's just south of Columbia on Rt.23. They even took 'em off! Lots of old Volvo "up on the hill"! Thanx guys :o)
