Code 0410 900

The "Check Engine" light is on in my '96 960 ( 142k mies). While having my oil changed yestedray I asked the shop tio run a diagnostic check. The code came back as 0410 ( pulse secondary air injection) however, the shop suggested that I take the car to a Volvo dealership. Any suggestins, recommendations on next step?

Code 0410 900

When this happened on my 96 965 it was a simple issue of a bad vacuum line to the check valve on the passenger side. Heat causes the rubber connector to fail. I simply replaced the connector and cleared out the code. That was about 7 months ago. Hope this helps.

I had the same code keep popping up. The rubber supports for the air injection pump were shot so I replaced them. Still had the codes and looked at the connection for the vaccuum line where it goes into a rubber connector and the thing fell apart in my hands. Cut off the bad section and fitted the vaccuum line back in and the code hasnt come back. Still need to find a new section of hose to make it a permanent fix. It's amazing how common these problems seem to be. Good luck with the fix.

Jbowers,

Can you elaborate on your response to my question about Code 0410?

My comment is in response to the post by RB. I.e., my car had a bad rubber connector between the check valve and the tube runung over the top of the engine when it showed fault code P0410.

JB,

Where is the check valve located on the 960?

It is located almost even with the top of the valve cover and about mid way front to back on the exhaust side. It is about the size of a fist with a 1" hose from the air pump feeding into it. There is a small plastic tube running over the top of the engine connected to it with a rubber connector. This rubber connector is a likely problem. (Rotted)
